In this article, I will discuss the top three tips to speed up your Windows PC. The first tip (#1) is to simply install more random-access-memory (RAM). If you are running a 32-bit version of Windows XP, Vista, or 7, then having 4 GBs of RAM is enough. Having more RAM is useless for a 32-bit operating system. However, if you are running a 64-bit version of Windows, then I highly recommend you upgrade to at least 4GB if not 8 GB.
The second tip (#2) is to turn off any Windows video effects you don’t need. By default, Windows Vista and 7 have fancy video effects turned on, which use up precious resources. To turn off these memory hogging effects, right click on your desktop and pick Personalize, then click on Windows Color and Appearance. Next, disable the special effects you don’t want.
The third tip (#3) is to optimize your Windows startup; this will help decrease the time it takes Windows to load whenever you restart your computer. To optimize your Windows startup, remove any programs from the Windows startup that is not necessary. To do this, go to Start>Run and type in msconfig; this will bring up the Windows’ System configuration window. When the Windows system configuration window comes up, choose Selective Startup. Now you can click on the Startup tab and uncheck any programs that do not need to be loaded at startup.
